july 12, 2008.
no, there was no mexican war fought in pittsburgh but general william robinson who would later become mayor named the area streets after places where he fought battles in the mexican war.
the area has changed quite much since i bicycled the streets as a boy growing up on brighton road, and i was a lil surprised to see tour bus after bus cruising the narrow alleys on a saturday night.
my photos are here.

i trekked to pittsburgh with amy for her opening at the moxie dada gallery which is located in the mexican war street section of the lower north side just a couple blocks from the ‘mattress factory’.
this show was a group show entitled ‘urbanic: sightlines and microcosms’ and curated by kyle fischer. grant bobitski who usually curates at the MD also had a couple pieces in the show and their website states that he actually ‘coined’ the word ‘urbanic’ which i’m a little skeptical of but regardless, the gallery is a nice space and they seem that they have a foothold in the pittsburgh art scene.
i have several photos of the show here.
